Isn't Wakanda Putting All of Their Eggs into One Basket?

The story of Wakanda, at least from the first Black Panther film within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, explains how a meteorite landed in the nation, and from that this super material known as vibranium is mined and basically powers all of their advanced technology. These are massive, highly technical mines that fuel the backbone of all of their society, and are pictured below in the film.

While this resource has been used for thousands of years, and there seems to be a massive abundance of it, this is not going to be something that is infinite. In fact, with Wakanda opening up towards the end of the film and sharing technology, it is likely that mining will increase, and minerals will be exported in massive quantities. So, eventually the vibranium will run out, but what does Wakanda have to compensate for this? All of their society is built off this one resource, and there seems to be no investment in diversifying the economy or technology of the society.

This conundrum may sound familiar. Many states that are poor, especially in Africa, fall under the "resource curse", where development is extremely slow due to various reasons, but as Wakanda is a highly developed society perhaps their future is more similar to Saudi Arabia, or other Gulf oil states. These countries have economies dependent almost completely on oil, but to hedge against future instabilities in fossil fuel prices, or a shift away from fossil fuels, they have attempted to diversify their economy. Dubai has been set up as a luxury tourist destination for the wealthy, and Saudi Arabia has invested heavily in banking, video games, golf, wrestling, and even a massive "city of the future", Neom, meant to become a new commercial center. However, these projects have come under massive criticism, and the countries in question still heavily rely on oil. Sheikh Ahmed Zaki Yamani of Saudi Arabia said "My grandfather rode a camel. My father drove a car. I fly in jet planes. My son will drive a car. My grandson will ride a camel." No matter how wealthy these states get, there is always anxiety that this prosperity will not last. Wakanda, if it is to survive in the future, must also seek to diversify their economy, lest they run out of their resources and fall off of the map in terms of relevance and prosperity.

With this, this blog will most likely be over. Super Suds out, and if you have stumbled on this and are reading it somehow, thank you for your time.
